Fixing potholes on Brent's roads

Excessive wet and cold weather conditions over the winter have increased the level of damage to our roads. Over the coming months, our teams will be out, across the borough, working to identify potholes and patching up defects on our most used roads.

Injection patching programme

We have identified 619 roads that need treatment. Roads are being prioritised based on their condition, starting with those in the poorest condition.

Roads that are not treated during the first phase of the programme will be included in the second phase, which is due to start in spring 2027.

Potholes usually happen when the road's surface has broken up and fallen out due to snow, ice and rain.

Once a pothole has formed, it will get bigger the more traffic passes over it, as cars driving over the potholes will continue to weaken and dislodge broken pieces of the road surface.

What happens next

We will inspect it and prioritise as follows:

High priority - these are repaired within seven days of the inspection
Medium priority - we will do further checks and if ordered, the works will be completed within 28 days
Low priority - these are recorded but no further action is taken.

Sometimes we may need to resurface the whole road and these works are done under our Highway road surfacing programme.
