£1m of cost of living support reaches Brent residents

Over 2,200 families facing financial hardship have received vital help with essential household costs through the council’s Resident Support Fund.

More than £1 million has now been distributed through the fund to help with essentials such as food, energy bills and other immediate living costs, as well as short-term needs following an emergency. Eligible residents can receive up to £500.

Cllr Tina Amadi, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Cost-of-Living Support said: "This is a significant milestone, with more than £1 million in much-needed support reaching households across Brent. At the same time, it serves as a stark reminder of the financial challenges many families continue to face as living costs remain high. We want residents to know that support is available and encourage them to seek help as early as possible, before financial difficulties reach crisis point."

Many residents may be entitled to financial support they are not currently claiming. Around £6 million in benefits goes unclaimed in Brent each year.

This includes Pension Credit known as a passport benefit, because it can unlock a range of additional support such as, a Winter Fuel Payment, a free TV Licence and Housing Benefit. Residents can check what benefits they may be entitled to in just a few minutes by using the benefits calculator.

The council’s online cost of living hub provides practical advice, support and information to help residents manage ongoing cost of living pressures and make the most of their money.

Access help and support with cost of living

For residents who are unable to access online services, or who need additional support, Brent Hubs offer face-to-face assistance at seven locations across the borough. Hub staff can help with housing, benefits, digital access and emergency assistance, including fuel and food vouchers.
