Local community groups and schools across the borough are encouraged to apply for this year's Veolia Orchard scheme to create community growing spaces in their neighbourhoods.

The popular scheme offers successful applicants fruit trees, strawberry plants and soil conditioner to help transform outdoor spaces into community orchards.

Since launching in Brent in 2022, the scheme has supported local schools and community organisations to plant almost 100 fruit trees and more than 200 strawberry plants, creating 40 new green spaces and boosting local biodiversity.

“

We’re delighted to welcome the Veolia Orchard scheme back to Brent. It’s a great way for schools and community groups to bring people together, connect with nature and help make Brent a cleaner, greener borough.

”
Cllr Promise Knight,
Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets, Transport and Public Realm

Cllr Promise Knight, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets, Transport and Public Realm, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome the Veolia Orchard scheme back to Brent. It’s a great way for schools and community groups to bring people together, connect with nature and help make Brent a cleaner, greener borough. I’d encourage eligible organisations across the borough to get involved and apply.”

Pascal Hauret, Chief Operating Officer, Commercial & Municipal at Veolia:

“The continued growth of Veolia Orchard in Brent reflects our commitment to environmental education and community engagement. For the past five years, we’ve witnessed the transformative power of these green spaces from school playgrounds to care homes and places of worship.”

Schools, charities, community groups and other eligible organisations are invited to apply and show how their project will benefit local people and the environment.

Applications are open until Friday 20 November.
